Brenda Horton is on a mission to empower women in becoming successful entrepreneurs. She is a serial and social entrepreneur. She sold her first internet-based business for a profit in the late 90s. She is a community activist. She fundraised over $300,000.00 for Sierra Forever Families, a Nevada County non-profit for children. Her fundraiser garnered regional attention with her signature event, Festival in the Foothills, a gourmet food and wine tasting culinary extravaganza and live & silent auction, which attracted over eight hundred attendees, forty restaurants and wineries, and seventy-five local volunteers.
Brenda Horton is an environmental activist. In 2003 she built a straw bale home in Nevada County using reclaimed and recycled materials. She has hosted thousands of visitors and students through the International Solar and Eco tour over a ten year period. In 2010 she founded the largest Meetup group in Nevada County called Nevada County Online (NCO). With almost 200 local non-profit and business members, NCO is the only professional organization in Nevada County that focuses exclusively on online marketing strategies for the local business community. She has inspired other women to launch their own Meetup groups, most notably the very popular Garden Goddesses of Nevada County.
